How the Beacon Pyramid Works
A Minecraft beacon needs a pyramid of "valid" blocks under it to activate. The pyramid is stepped: each level up is one block smaller on every side than the level below. Level 1 is a 3×3 base. Level 2 stacks a 3×3 on top of a 5×5 base. Level 3 adds a 7×7 base; Level 4 adds a 9×9 base at the very bottom. The beacon block sits centred on top of the 3×3 layer.
Only five block types count as valid pyramid material: iron blocks, gold blocks, emerald blocks, diamond blocks, and netherite blocks. You can mix them freely — the game just checks that every block in the pyramid is one of those five. That's the loophole this generator exploits for the two-tone mode: a mostly iron pyramid with a diamond top layer looks like a diamond build from the outside, at ~5% of the material cost of an all-diamond build.

Which Material Should You Use?
Iron blocks — the practical choice. A well-run iron farm produces about 400 iron ingots per hour; a level 4 pyramid needs 1,476 ingots, so 3-4 hours of iron farm output. Iron blocks look sturdy and industrial. Best all-round pick.
Gold blocks — mid-tier flex. Similar quantity to iron (1,476 gold ingots for level 4) but gold is rarer in vanilla — either bartering with Piglins or Nether mining. Gold pyramids look striking, especially with sandstone or deepslate around them.
Emerald blocks — the "trading empire" flex. Requires a villager trading hall, but emeralds scale infinitely with librarian trading. If you already have an emerald farm, this is the cheapest of the non-iron options.
Diamond blocks — heavy flex. 1,476 diamonds for level 4 is a serious grind — roughly a full stack (64) per hour with Fortune III + Beacon Haste, so ~25 hours of dedicated mining. Two-tone (iron base + diamond top) is the smart compromise: 9 diamond blocks (81 diamonds) instead of 164 (1,476).
Netherite blocks — extreme flex. 656 netherite scrap for a level 4 pyramid, which is unrealistic in most survival worlds. Use as the top 3×3 only (36 scrap for the top layer) if you want the netherite look without the impossible grind.
Beacon Placement Rules
A few things the generator can't check for you but the game will:
- Clear sky above. The beacon needs to see the sky. Any solid block above it blocks the beam. Transparent blocks (glass, glass panes, ice, stained glass) don't block it, and can colour the beam.
- Level pyramid. The pyramid must be perfectly stepped — the top 3×3 needs to be centred on the 5×5, and so on down. The generator handles this automatically.
- Initial fuel. After building the pyramid and beacon, you need to put one iron ingot, gold ingot, emerald, diamond, or netherite ingot into the beacon's UI to activate the effect. You pick the effect from the ones your level unlocks.
- Don't stand on the pyramid. A player standing on the pyramid doesn't count as "in range" of a lower level — the effect area is measured from the beacon block outward.
Where to Build a Beacon
Central base. The 40-50 block range at level 3-4 covers most of a typical base. Put the beacon in an atrium or central plaza so all your rooms are in range.
Farm hub. Haste II from a level 4 doubled Haste beacon roughly doubles your mining and crafting speed. Place at the centre of an underground quarry or mob farm.
Nether base. Beacons work in the Nether. A Speed II beacon on your Nether hub makes travel through hostile terrain much easier.
Aesthetic feature. Coloured beacon beams (put stained glass above the beacon) make gorgeous night-time landmarks. Different-colour glass panes stack to change the beam colour partway up.
